Stephen is a lifelong North Bay resident and a 3rd generation Californian. All early indications were that Steve would be a designer and gardener. As a child he was always amongst the shrubberies and garden beds expressing a very early aptitude as a horticulturist. Grandma’s garden was an important sanctuary and touchstone. Many early memories are of gardens, wild areas and outdoor adventures with family. His formative years were spent roaming the landscapes of Marin and Sonoma Counties with Mt. Tamalpais and Pt. Reyes areas being a central focus to his gestalt.
Stephen's early education focused on art and design. He then moved on to studying at Cal Poly SLO and graduated with a B.S. in Landscape Architecture (1986). After stints with two professional design firms in the Bay Area Stephen moved back to Sonoma County and joined Judy to form the partnership that has become Mason White Landscape Architecture. Stephen is passionate about Design and is a devoted Plantsman who can reduce even the most interested gardener to tears talking about plants.

Raised in an Air Force family, Judy’s childhood and adolescence were uniquely international, with Germany, Thailand, Texas and California as the formative backdrops to her life. Judy's early love of the outdoors was fostered by extensive sailing trips with her family on the far-flung waters of the world.
Upon graduation from Cal Poly S.L.O. with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture (1987). Judy worked as a Horticulturalist and an Architectural draftsperson before forming her own business, ‘The Country Gardener’ in 1989. Later, with the addition of Stephen, the company was re-named to reflect the changing character of the work. Judy now guides the business management and development of Mason White with an inspiring, compassionate and firm hand. Judy is an avid outdoors enthusiast who is most happy when kayaking local waters, scrambling through the high Sierra, or exploring remote desert washes. She spoils her family, especially the dog, and is a renowned cook.
